how to transition your wardrobe to spring

spring is almost here!  this weekend up in boston was so beautiful out.  finally clear blue skies and 50-degree weather.  no scarf needed and i finally got some vitamin D!  i’m not going to get my hopes up too much, but we are only a couple weeks away from the official start of spring.  and while we’re between seasons, there are a couple simple things you can do to transition your wardrobe from winter to spring:

1 – incorporate colors from spring into your wardrobe.  wear a bright yellow coat like lauren conrad or a teal scarf like emily blunt.

2 – like charlize theron, layer your floral print spring dresses with winter pieces, like a blazer and tights.

j’adore these french fashion icons

there are 2 ladies who are my french fashion icons. they are beautiful and have amazing fashion sense in different ways.  i just love their confidence in style and in being who they are in what they wear!

singer, actress, and model charlotte gainsbourg has been one of my favorite style icons ever since i first watched la science des reves (the science of sleep), a french/imaginative/artistic/romantic film.  then i found out she was a singer, most recently pairing with beck in a single for her new album and totally fell in love.  her style is casual, everyday wear – big bags, plain blouses, layered.

and then there’s actress, singer and red carpet star, marion cotillard.  i can’t get over every dress i’ve seen her wear to award shows.  i absolutely love them all!  she always chooses perfect colors and dresses that are different, but work so well.  and if you haven’t seen her in her oscar winning role as french music legend, edith piaf in la vie en rose – go watch it!

celebrity style icon

sorry mary-kate, but ashley olsen is a celebrity style icon of mine.  i love that she’s not afraid to try new things with her style and has variety in what she wears.  here are some fashion tips to learn from ashley olsen:

1) accentuate your assets – this dress is beautiful in a soft color, but she really stands out by accentuating what works best for her – those dark lips and the belt around her tiny waist.  what are your best assets?  find a way to make them stand out in your outfit.

2) mix classy with trendy –  the white blazer and black and white colors are classy and sophisticated, while the leggings and strappy heels are hot trends.  don’t go overboard with too many trends at once.  balancing one or two trends with a sophisticated piece makes for a strong outfit.

3) try a bold color or shape – orange is definitely a bold color.  so is a long dress with a square top.  but it looks great on ashley olsen!  sometimes it’s worth trying something new and bold – try out a color that you don’t typically wear.  you might find it looks great with your skin tone and that you have been missing out!
