BCAE “To the Nines” exhibit

Last Friday I went to the Boston Center for Adult Education for a reception kicking off their latest exhibit featuring Boston street style photos from the lovely Martini’s blog, Beyond Boston Chic. First off, if you haven’t been to the BCAE, I definitely recommend you check it out.  I attented a fashion writing seminar there last year and was very impressed by the facilities and by all of the affordable classes they offer. Back to the event..Martini shared with us how she got the idea for the blog one day, which combines her passions, photography and fashion, into one blog to show people that Bostonions do have style!

50 of her photos are on display at the BCAE until April 20th, so stop by to see them all in person!  This is one of my favs:

It was also great to see Jaime from La vie..J’aime and Kristen from The Boston Fashionista again.  And to meet Martini, Melissa and Natalie from Boston Day Book, Sami from Glimpse of Glamour, Najeema from A Stylized Hysteria, and Becky from the BCAE!

Blog Better Boston recap

I had 2 blog resolutions this year:

1) Better manage the amount of time I spend on my blog (it can takeover your life if you let it)

2) Attend events and meet bloggers in person

Well yesterday’s Blog Better Boston was the first in-person blog event that I have attended and it was a lot of fun!    Amy from Stylish Year and Alana from The Good Girl Gone Blog organized the whole thing and they did an amazing job!  It had a great mix of panelists, good location, tasty food, amazing swag bag, and was organized and professional.  I hope this is first of many Blog Better Boston events from those girls!

I really enjoyed the Monetize Your Blog, Working with Brands, and Building a Community panels.  These are a couple of my favorite quotes from those panels:

“Do what you do.” (said by Mary Jane from Shoeline) – This was in reference to working with brands.  This panel talked a lot about finding your niche and sticking to what you’re good at and like.  As you long as you stay true to yourself, brands will be interested.

“If you can’t find the community your looking for, create it.” (I believe Renee from Eat.Live.Blog. and Boston Brunchers quoted this from a convo she had with someone from Real Simple earlier in the day.)

I also liked the Photo Editing workshop. I know nothing about photography, so that workshop was super helpful.  Kristyn Ulunday ran the session and was so enthusiastic and knowledgable. Check out her photography and videography!

And the whole point of attending events like this is to meet new people.  It was great to meet Jaime from La vie…J’aime and Sarah McManus aka Boston Stylista, who I had known from Twitter for awhile.  I also met new people and found new blogs to further keep my Google Reader always full, like Jeff from Dress Code Boston and Alison from Long Distance Loving and Boston Bloggers.

To add to all of this, the swag bag had a bunch of items I’m really excited about – the latest issue of Real Simple, a gift certificate to INDI custom jeans and In Pink jewelry, Tazo tea, pouch from Stephanie Johnson and a lot more!

Thanks again to Amy and Alana and great meeting everyone!

Attention Boston bloggers: fashion writing class April 4th!

I just found out about this fashion writing class April 4th at the Boston Center for Adult Education.  I have looked at classes through the BCAE a few times, but my old work schedule made it hard for me to commit to something that starts at 6PM.  But, this one night only class “Line by Line: Fashion Writing Basics” sounds like a fun and interesting night!  It’s taught by editorial director of STUFF Magazine, Erica Corsano, and the coolest part of the class is that one student’s work will be published in the next issue of STUFF!

I just signed up for the class, so if you sign up too, let me know!   Maybe see you there!
