From runway to office: color blocking

Color blocking is when you wear two or more solid colors together in one outfit.  It’s been a popular trend on runways for the past couple years and will continue to be a trend into 2012.  Here’s an example of color blocking from the Miu Miu fall 2011 ready-to-wear collection:

This is a really simple trend to transfer to what you wear to work.  Instead of pairing the standard black and white or brown and blue, look at the colors in your closet and pair together colors that you may not have thought of before, like these:

purple & navy

Banana Republic, The Sak, Aldo, J.Crew, Gap

ShopStyle

Top – J. Crew ($34.99 on sale)

Pants – Gap ($59.95)

Shoes – Aldo ($75)

Earrings – Banana Republic ($30)

iPad case – The Sak ($34)

gray, orange & green

Seychelles, Deux Lux, Citizens of Humanity

ShopStyle

Top – ModCloth ($54.99)

Pants – Citizens of Humanity ($136.99 on sale)

Shoes – Seychelles ($85.99 on sale)

Bag – Deux Lux from Urban Outfitters ($69)

Bracelets – from Nordstrom ($98)

What are some other color block combinations that are appropriate for work?

What to wear to work: purple & black

For those new to this blog, this is me!  I’m lucky enough to work at an advertising agency where the wardrobe is pretty flexible.

Here’s another one with my hair pulled back (this is a couple days before I got a haircut, so it was driving me crazy!)

A close-up of the print on my skirt:

And my shoes and tights:

Jacket – Aqua (A Christmas gift last year from my mom.  I think it’s from Macy’s.)

Dress – American Rag

Tights – Don’t know (I think these are also a Christmas gift from my mom.)

Shoes – Aldo

Earrings – a boutique in New Hampshire (These were a Christmas gift from my mom too – she did a good job!)
