HBO Girls Marnie fashion

I think out of all of the Girls, I relate the most to Marnie. There are definitely a lot of things I don’t have in common with her, but she’s pretty much the Charlotte of the group, who I also related to. Anyway, Marnie’s style is preppy and polished. She probably shops at places like Club Monaco, Banana Republic and Madewell.

What do you think of Marnie’s style?

What I wore to work last week

Fun story about this shirt – I bought it at a street fair in Manhattan when I lived there.  Not long after I bought the shirt, my friend and I were at a Bob Dylan concert on Long Island.  While walking into the venue a girl came up to me and said she made this shirt!  She was so excited to see someone out wearing the shirt she designed.

Shirt: NY Street Fair / Skirt: Banana Republic / Shoes: Franco Sarto

Printed sleeveless shirt: French Connection / Jeans: Seven for All Mankind

Glasses: Nine West / Dress: Gap / Jacket: Express

I wore this outfit on Friday.  My clients were in town for meetings, but it was a Friday so I went with this semi-casual outfit.  I went with a bit of a vintage inspiration with the earrings and the lace shirt.

Sleeveless shirt: Banana Republic / White jeans: Seven Jeans / Sweatshirt/cardigan: lamixx / Earrings: Gift

What I wore to work last week

Looking back at my work outfits from last week, I stayed with the classics for the most part: wrap print dress, white pants, black and white pencil skirt and then weaved in a couple trends like a yellow statement necklace and sheer top.

Print wrap dress: From Target during the “shops at Target” promotion.  This dress is designed by  Miami boutique The Webster.

Navy sheer top: Marshalls / White capris: 7 Jeans (bought at Marshalls) / Sandals: Franco Sarto / Yellow statement necklace: Francesca’s Collections

Black top: Marshalls / Black and white pencil skirt: Banana Republic (a sale rack find!)

Black blazer: H&M / Pencil skirt: H&M / Orange peplum top: ASOS / Heels: Aldo

Dress: Forever 21 / Heels: Aldo

Blouse: Romeo & Juliet Couture / Jeans: James Jeans / Blazer: Banana Republic

6 work appropriate skirts

I’ve noticed a trend around the office and the streets that has been annoying me a little.  Skirts that girls are wearing to work are getting inappropriate!  I’ve seen these especially on interns or entry-level recent college grads:

The skirts these girls are wearing are too short and too tight.  Keep those for going out at night ladies please!  Here are 2 tips for wearing a skirt to work:

1) The length should be close to the knee – a couple inches above your knee is the shortest you should go.

2) A body hugging skirt is not sending the right message at the office.  Make sure the skirt is not over-accentuating your curves.

Here are 6 skirts that are work appropriate:

1 – Forever 21 / 2 – Banana Republic / 3 – Gap / 4 – Forever 21 / 5 – Ann Taylor / 6 – Banana Republic

Any other tips on wearing work appropriate skirts?

What to wear to an interview

Figuring out what to wear to an interview is stressful, especially if you’re a new college grad.  Every industry and office has its own dress code, so it can get tricky.  If you are going for an interview, do as much research as you can to try to figure out what people wear at the office.  Look at pictures on the company website and ask around.  If you’re still not sure, it’s always best to overdress.  Also keep it simple.  Avoid prints or distracting jewelry – you want them to focus on you, not what you’re wearing.  Here are some outfit ideas for what to wear to an interview from corporate to casual:

Jacket, Pencil Skirt, Blouse, Heels

Dress

Blouse, Pants, Heels

Peplum Top, Pants, Heels

What do you think?  Any other advice on what to wear to a job interview?

What to wear to work: floral print cardigan

Here I am!  I’ve had these gray pants forever..I think from college!  But they still fit and I like them for the spring/summer months.  This cardigan I bought last year on sale from Banana Republic and it’s still a favorite of mine.  I like the pretty print.

Printed cardigan – Banana Republic

Blue shirt – ASOS

Gray pants – Express

Nude wedge shoes – Calvin Klein

Nail polish – Essie Sand Tropez

Zooey Deschanel style (for the office)

She acts, she sings and she has great style!  Zooey Deschanel has fun with her vintage-looking style.  One recent outfit of hers that got a lot of buzz was this custom Prada dress paired with tuxedo designed nails that she wore to the Golden Globes earlier this year – very cute! And here’s one of her vintage-looking classic outfits: the floral dress!

Every girl should have at least one floral dress in her closet for the spring/summer months.  If you don’t have one or want to add another one (or two or three – I won’t judge!) to your wardrobe, check these out:

ASOS

Banana Republic

Forever 21

What to wear to work: dressing up jeans

I think everyone would agree with me that a good pair (or two or three) of boots is a winter staple.  Right?  They keep you warm and there are so many style variations to choose from.  I really like Alison’s boots here.  I like the brown color and the heels are the perfect size for the office.  Hint – avoid boots with super high heels..they’ll look a little too Pretty Woman (before she met Richard Gere if you know what I mean).  And how do you dress up a solid color blouse?  Add a fun necklace, like Alison!

Shirt – Ann Taylor (sale rack!)

Boots – Vince Camuto (from DSW)

Necklace – Banana Republic
