Get Mila Kunis’ day to night look

Finding an outfit that is appropriate for work but will also look good going out for happy hour drinks after 5 is a challenge.  If wearing jeans is appropriate for your work, then the day to night transition is a little simpler.  I love Mila Kunis’ day to night look here keeping it simple in black, but adding some sass with a flared top under the blazer and fun heels.  Here’s how you can get her look:

Black blazer: Zara / Black peplum tank: ASOS / Skinny jeans: Citizens of Humanity / Black heels: Cynthia Vincent

PS – What do you think of Mila & Ashton?  At first I didn’t like it because I still feel bad for Demi, but once I remembered this is a That 70′s Show reunion, I now think it’s kind of cute!

What to wear to work: oversized scarf

When I heard it was going to be around 30 degrees outside with a windchill in the teens, my first thought was to wear this warm oversized scarf.  I then planned the rest of the outfit around it by wearing one of my favorite sweaters, accessorizing with a skinny belt.

From runway to office: color blocking

Color blocking is when you wear two or more solid colors together in one outfit.  It’s been a popular trend on runways for the past couple years and will continue to be a trend into 2012.  Here’s an example of color blocking from the Miu Miu fall 2011 ready-to-wear collection:

This is a really simple trend to transfer to what you wear to work.  Instead of pairing the standard black and white or brown and blue, look at the colors in your closet and pair together colors that you may not have thought of before, like these:

purple & navy

Banana Republic, The Sak, Aldo, J.Crew, Gap

What are some other color block combinations that are appropriate for work?

1 sweater, 3 ways

Do you have a sweater you love?  Here are some ideas for how to wear that one sweater, three ways:

1 – Dress it up with a pencil or mini skirt and heeled boots

2 - Get comfortable with a pair of leggings and flat boots

3 - Go casual with jeans and flats

RIP citizens of humanity jeans

so i don’t usually write about brand names here, but i feel like these jeans are worthy of breaking that rule.  back in 2004, i moved out of state to new york city, just to go somewhere new, get my career started, and meet new people.  i l-o-v-e-d it there!  one random memory from when i first moved there is going out to bars and noticing that everyone was wearing designer jeans.  i knew i had to keep up and my non-designer jeans weren’t going to cut it (i’m not even going to embarrass myself with what brand i was wearing then).  so i went over to bloomingdales on 59th and 3rd and spent the money to buy my first pair of designer jeans from citizens of humanity. i was quickly addicted and now own more pairs of jeans than i need.

well, sadly, 6 years later, my two favorite pairs of jeans from citizens of humanity have ripped and are no longer wearable.  i know this is cheesy, but i’ve never been so sad to see a piece of clothes go.  maybe it’s because of the sentimental value they have?  or that they fit me so well? ask my boyfriend ;) they are still sitting on the floor in my room – not sure why. and i will be replacing them and hoping that they have the same affect my first pair had for me.

have you ever felt like this about clothes of yours?  or am i just crazy?
