2010 fall fashion trends: sneak peak

i know.  it’s still the middle of the summer and we don’t want to be thinking of fall weather right now.  but, it could be a good time to start setting money aside for when you go shopping in a couple months for some of the new fashion trends this fall.  here is a sneak peak at what’s coming for fall 2010, spotted on the runway and on celebs:

fringe: this trend has been around for a few seasons, but it will be even more popular this fall as an added accessory to different pieces in your wardrobe.  for example, nicole richie’s scarf is trimmed with fringe and vanessa hudgens has a fringe bag.  fringe will also be added to coats, pants, and jewelry.

prints: fall usually gets a little boring wearing solid colors, like black.  this fall, spice up your wardrobe with interesting prints, like the pant suit by akris and the  proenza schouler dress.

fur: this fall, full fur coats aren’t going to be so much the style (unless it’s a mix of fur color/print like the chloe coat).  instead, fur will be seen a lot as a trim on coats or sweaters, like the marc jacobs sweater.

are you looking forward to any of these fall trends?  any other trends you are looking forward to this fall?

new clothing line alert!

Bridge & Burn is a new clothing line that launched with a collection of outerwear perfect for the spring, all made of high quality materials in various designs and colors.  what i love about this line is that it’s aim is not to follow trends, but instead to create classic, timeless garments.  so that means these coats are worth adding to your wardrobe because they will never go out of style!

how to transition your wardrobe to spring

spring is almost here!  this weekend up in boston was so beautiful out.  finally clear blue skies and 50-degree weather.  no scarf needed and i finally got some vitamin D!  i’m not going to get my hopes up too much, but we are only a couple weeks away from the official start of spring.  and while we’re between seasons, there are a couple simple things you can do to transition your wardrobe from winter to spring:

1 – incorporate colors from spring into your wardrobe.  wear a bright yellow coat like lauren conrad or a teal scarf like emily blunt.

2 – like charlize theron, layer your floral print spring dresses with winter pieces, like a blazer and tights.

choices, choices

it’s winter sale season – yay! that means not feeling so guilty about a shopping splurge at your favorite store and it means the beginning of gearing up for spring..and warm weather. here are some items on sale from some of my favorite independent designers – clothes from the super stylish Erika Hendrix and Built by Wendy and from organic and sustainable designers Stewart + Brown and Elroy. happy shopping!

i'm thankful

there are a lot of things i’m thankful for this thanksgiving, like the health of my family and friends, surviving layoffs during (hopefully) the worst part of the recession.  but when it comes to fashion, there are some fall trends this year that i’m also thankful for, like:

- geometric shapes (from seneca rising)

- layered jewelry (from JANETLILY)

- boyfriend blazers (from toast)

- draped dresses (from JoDemontis)

camper cute: Dear Creatures

my work and life have been so crazy lately that i’ve been thinking a lot more about the past than i usually do.  wouldn’t it be great to be a kid again, watching tommy pickles and patty mayonnaise on nickelodeon?  and remember being a brownie – going to team meetings, doing arts & crafts?  well this fall collection from Dear Creatures is a reminiscent expression of those camp days from childhood, but with a modern twist.

ps – these could double as a stylish halloween costume – just add a sash and sew on some patches!

make a color statement in the fall

look around on the next brisk day and notice the color of everyone’s coats – black, black, brown, black.  i’m not sure why, but for some reason outerwear for the cold weather months usually comes in very limited colors.  except for this year – fall coats are popping out in bright colors like yellow, blue and red and i’m loving it!

audrey hepburn of course

my inspiration for the “american” menu here started with audrey hepburn as holly golightly in one of my all time favorite movies, breakfast at tiffany’s.  that movie is from 1961 and so many of the wardrobe pieces are still stylish today.  here are the 3 most timeless pieces holly golightly wears:

1) “i’m just CRAZY about tiffany’s” – the little black dress

2) “moon river…” – cigarette pants, a.k.a. capri pants, a.k.a. straight leg pants

3) “i love you, you belong to me!” – trench coat

i like the color gray?

my boyfriend of all people (i say that because he’s not one for fashion and gets confused when my clothes become too trendy) pointed out to me the other day that i like gray in my wardrobe.  then i thought of some of my favorite pieces – gray cardigan, gray long sweater, gray jeans, gray dress, gray t-shirt – and realized he’s right!  i really don’t like khaki and white and black could get boring, so i buy gray pieces as my neutrals and layering pieces.

and apparently i’m not alone. rachel mcadams wore a gray jacket and bag, jessica simpson wore a gray maxi dress with a pink cardigan, rachel bilson has been carrying around a new gray bag, jessica alba wore a gray tunic, and rihanna wore a gray sweater.  what are your thoughts on the color gray?  drab or daring?
