canadian independent clothing designers on the today show!

i was so happy to see the today show doing a feature on independent clothing designers in canada as part of their olympics coverage!  as the video says, there is more to canada than snowsuits.  canadian designers are focused on style, manufacturing the clothes in canada, and many of them make clothes that are eco-friendly and sustainable.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

the video features a bunch of great boutiques in canada and featured 2 of my fav clothing designers, allison wonderland and dace.  allison wonderland’s online store is carrying her fall/winter 09 collection (many of the items are on sale), including the dress featured on the today show.  the spring line will be out soon..i’ve seen a sneak peak of it and it’s definitely worth keeping an eye out for!  you can buy from dace’s spring 2010 collection now, which is full of lots of great timeless-with-a-twist pieces.

spring 2010 fashion guide: colors and prints

what’s great about this year’s spring trends is that there is something for everyone, like the different choices in colors and prints.  here’s a quick spring 2010 fashion guide that shows you the variety in these options:

stripes – stripes can be scary, but they look great if you wear them right. find shirts where the stripes are at a diagonal or a contrast.

1 – black and rose striped top by corey lynn calter

2 – twisted stripe top by micaela greg

pastels – the perfect color trend for the spring. pretty pastel colors inspired by the season, like lavender, pink, seafoam green, and sky blue.

3 – lavender ruffle bow skirt by vivatveritas7

4 – pink a-line coat by kelly b

bold prints - this is a fun option if you’re looking to stand out with something new.  you can look for a large flower print or a print that’s a mix of fabrics.

5 – collage dress by burning torch

6 – flower dress by dreamandawake

eco-friendly clothing designer

amazingly enough, there is a really great selection of eco-friendly clothing designers these days.  and even better, the designers don’t just pay attention to the fabrics and processes they use to produce the clothes, they also care about the design and making the clothes stylish.

one of my favorite eco-friendly clothing designers is canadian line, deux fm.  deux fm is committed to using environmentally friendly fabrics and following fair labor practices, but is also focused on making stylish clothes for women.

deux fm’s spring 2010 collection is one example of this great style.  denim and chambray are at the heart of the collection, mixed in with neutrals like gold and tan.  this mix of colors has been huge on the runway, so i’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot of it when spring starts!

(500) days of zooey deschanel

so i finally got around to watching (500) days of summer this weekend, starring the lovely zooey deschanel, and i loved it!  there were a lot of things i liked about the movie – the story, the directing, the music (just bought the soundtrack), and of course – the fashion.  zooey deschanel’s character was very “50′s chic.”  she wore soft colors, like powder blue, and conservative dresses and skirts.

if i knew summer in real life, i would recommend she check out the online shop at UK based store, toast.  the clothes from toast are modern, with a hint of vintage, and in fun prints.

in honor of breast cancer awareness month

today during the patriots/ravens game, the players were wearing pink wrist bands and pink sneakers and the goal posts were wrapped in pink – all for breast cancer awareness month.  while watching the game, i said i thought that was weird that they were raising awareness of breast cancer during a football game…but after thinking about it, it was a smart idea!  the pink color definitely stood out among the dark blue, black and red and although breast cancer directly affects women – husbands, brothers, and fathers are also affected by it when someone they love gets it.  so, in honor of breast cancer awareness month, i have pulled together some of my favorite finds from etsy.com:
