this year, indie magazine, VivaLaModa, shared the results of a great contest in sustainable fashion, called Project Reconstruction. for the project, 12 independent designers created a piece of clothing constructed from a men’s shirt. the results were everything from a dress to pants. the winning design was this super-cute romper:
the remaining designs are now available on eBay for auction for a really great purpose. all proceeds will be donated to CARE – Emergency in Haiti, an organization that plans to stay in Haiti until 2015 to help rebuild homes, hospitals, etc.
so to purchase a one-of-a-kind design and help support a great cause in Haiti, bid for one of these items here now!
i love bye bye birdie! i think the first time i saw it was at my middle school play (that may have been the year i was a props girl – ha!) then, i think the first movie version i saw was the more recent one with jason alexander and vanessa williams in it. but, the classic version of bye bye birdie from 1963 featuring ann-margret, bobby rydell, and dick van dyke is the best. of course, i am a huge fan of the timeless and simple style in the film!
remember this song from mad men?
i think this is my favorite song from the movie:

to see fashion styles around the world, i took a trip on chictopia.com browsing through what people are wearing in different countries. i was happy to see that one of my favorite trends, mixing prints, is popular in other countries, and that leopard print, layering, and blazers are universal style staples right now. here are some of the favorite outfits i found:
paris. j’adore the layering on these two girls, incorporating popular prints and textures like leopard print, florals, and fur, making them look great despite the cooler climate right now.

manila. i like the boldness in color and accessories. both girls are wearing jewelry that stands out, but the pieces also compliment their outfits. they certainly aren’t afraid to stand out with bright colors or shredded leggings!

sydney. trousers are definitely the trend now down under. they can be worn for a very sophisticated look with a button down shirt or in a more bold look, with leopard print paired with a lace cami.

buenos aires. girls are liking scarves in this south american city, which i love! they prove that scarves aren’t only for cold weather; they are great accessories to add dimension to any outfit.

congrats to her engagement! and congrats on kate middleton’s style! i have to admit that i wasn’t really someone to follow the royal family, but there is something about kate that makes me really excited for her. she just seems like such a normal person with fabulous accessible style! there are 3 things that kate really loves: hats, boots, and scarves. it’s easy to get her look if you watch how she wears these 3 things.
first, hats. she loves hats – especially with feathers and for special events.
second, boots. preferably with skirts and they work with day and night outfits.
third, scarves with boots. big cozy scarves in solid colors so they don’t overwhelm the outfit.
and lastly, hats with scarves and boots! just keep it simple with the hat so it all pieces together nicely like her outfits. so gorgeous!

now that the clothing menu boutique is up and running, it’s time for you to get to know the designers in the shop! first up is Kristina, the designer for Fischer Clothing, a women’s and menswear line. here’s a little bit from Kristina about Fischer Clothing:
how did you get started creating your clothing line?
I just made up my mind and did it. I sewed up the first collection in like 2 weeks and put together a photoshoot. It’s a ton of work, but I absolutely love doing it. I love learning and growing and evolving – I’m amazed with how much has happened in just the past year!
what makes your designs different?
My design process is very intuitive and personal. I try not to be driven by trends or what anyone else is doing. Each season, I follow a loose overall concept, usually derived from art, music and culture I’m currently digging on. Then, I pull together fabrics and use silhouette inspiration from all over the place.
2 tops from Fischer Clothing are available in the shop – buy now with free shipping (for the grand opening only)!
here are some tips on how to dress like taylor swift. she always has such fun style that is rarely without the bright red lipstick!
be fun – wear bright colors, like yellow and green, which look good with any skin tone/hair color.
be classy – you can’t go wrong with black and white! this polka dot dress with the gathering at the side is an on-trend way to wear these colors, which is perfectly accented by the cute brown oxford shoes.
be sexy – sequins aren’t going anywhere anytime soon! wear a mini-dress with sequin accents for a sexy look.
be romantic – this playful romantic outfit is a perfect way to wear ruffles and layers. give it a little bit of an edge with patterned tights and knee high boots.
do you have any other favorite taylor swift looks?

i know. it’s still the middle of the summer and we don’t want to be thinking of fall weather right now. but, it could be a good time to start setting money aside for when you go shopping in a couple months for some of the new fashion trends this fall. here is a sneak peak at what’s coming for fall 2010, spotted on the runway and on celebs:
fringe: this trend has been around for a few seasons, but it will be even more popular this fall as an added accessory to different pieces in your wardrobe. for example, nicole richie’s scarf is trimmed with fringe and vanessa hudgens has a fringe bag. fringe will also be added to coats, pants, and jewelry.
prints: fall usually gets a little boring wearing solid colors, like black. this fall, spice up your wardrobe with interesting prints, like the pant suit by akris and the proenza schouler dress.
fur: this fall, full fur coats aren’t going to be so much the style (unless it’s a mix of fur color/print like the chloe coat). instead, fur will be seen a lot as a trim on coats or sweaters, like the marc jacobs sweater.
are you looking forward to any of these fall trends? any other trends you are looking forward to this fall?
