Upset that Mad Men is delayed? Get your Mad Men fashion fix here!

It’s true, in case you haven’t heard, season 5 of Mad Men is officially delayed and won’t be on air until 2012! But that doesn’t mean we need to stop being inspired by the fashion of Betty, Peggy and Joan.  Luckily there is a new clothing line, Recollection by Sandra Murphy, that is inspired by fashion from the 1940′s, 1950′s and 1960′s.  The clothes look like something you would find in your favorite vintage store, but they are all modern designs inspired by the past and all produced in the US.  Go back in time by watching the video below to see the collection. Which piece is your favorite?

where i shop: vintage in Boston

last weekend i visited Cafe Society, a quaint vintage shop in Brookline Hills, just outside of Boston.  Café Society carries vintage clothes, purses, shoes, and jewelry primarily for women, but they also carry men’s and children’s vintage clothes.  while i was there, i bought a green/gray tweed blazer with brown buttons for only $25! it’s very menswear, and will look great with skinny jeans and heels.  i also had my eyes on a blue floral dress with a bow collar and a yellow and gray dress – both very Mad Men.

what i like best about Cafe Society is the woman who works there (i’m assuming the owner).  you know how it sometimes gets awkward when you walk into a store that’s not very busy and you feel like the person working there is watching your every move?  well this store is the opposite.  i searched around the whole store and tried things on with no pressure at all.  i was asked if i needed any help and when i responded that i was all set, i was happily on my own searching through the racks.

for a low-key vintage shopping excursion, drive out to Cafe Society in Brookline Village and let me know what you find!

dress like betty draper

yay – mad men is back!  what the heck slimeball don draper?  anyway, as i’ve mentioned here before, i love getting a glimpse into fashion in the 50′s/60′s when watching mad men.  i’m so jealous of the costume designer’s job!  check out this great video with the designer, janie bryant, giving a tour of the costume shop for the show.

and check out sohomode, a great shop on etsy, with handmade clothes that look just like outfits betty draper or peggy olson would wear, but modernized!

i mad men'ed myself

2 more weeks and mad men is back for its 3rd season!  i love this show for multiple reasons:

1) my obsession with what life was like in the 1900′s before i was born

2) the suburb story lines, complex characters, and captivating directing

3) my full-time job is working at an advertising agency – working in pete campbell’s role, although what we do now as an account executive has changed a lot since then.  i love seeing what the advertising world was like 50 years ago.  we do still drink in the office, but just the occasional beer on a friday afternoon – no one has a bar stocked with hard alcohol in their office – darn!

4) the fashion!  i love joan’s sexy dresses and the transformation of betty and peggy’s style over the past couple seasons.

yesterday i came across a promotion amc put together for the show called mad men yourself.  here’s me meeting up with don draper for a drink.  apparently i look like peggy (although i’m cuter ;) )
