The start of spring shopping

I’m so excited spring is just about here!  Today I went shopping for the warm weather that will hopefully be coming soon.  My plan was to go to Loehmann’s, the only location here in MA.  After a 30 minute drive, I found out that there is no longer a Loehmann’s in MA!  I remember hearing about them going bankrupt, but then I thought it had been bought out and was saved.  I just thought they would have sent me some kind of goodbye letter or something after all the other mailings I got from them, but understandable that’s not on their priority list!

So anyway, I was disappointed, but made the best of it and went to DSW, Marshall’s, Nordstrom Rack and Urban Outfitters.  I didn’t have any luck with clothes, but bought these 2 pairs of shoes for a total of $94.90!  Do you like them?

Black wedge Seychelles shoes.  Seychelles is a brand I’ve been wearing for awhile because all their shoes have the two qualities I look for – style and comfort.  I’ll probably wear these shoes to work a lot.  I’m a big fan of a low heel, especially when it’s a wedge shoe.

I was looking for a casual neutral flat and am really happy I found these BCBG Paris shoes.  They are a very pale pink and comfortable.  I can’t wait to wear them!

this month in indie fashion magazine N.E.E.T.

the june issue of N.E.E.T. magazine just came out!  here are my 2 favorite parts of this month’s issue:

1) this spread featuring “the summer top 10″ – 10 great pieces that all work together from dress to hat to necklace all from independent designers around the world.

2) this article about Australian shoe designers, tHe Horse.  it’s tough finding independent shoe designers, so i was excited to learn about this collection.  they also remind me of sienna miller and jude law’s shoes from their recent outing.  yes?  no?

shoe inspiration from 1958

i am not a shoe girl.  i know, that’s blasphemy, but they just don’t do anything for me.  i have collected a good amount of shoes in a variety of shapes and colors over the years and just realized today that i’ve gotten a little lazy with my shoes.  i don’t wear high heels to work anymore.  1 1/2″ and flat boots are my staples.  why be in pain by the end of a day of heels?  it’s just not worth it to me.

but, because i love old fashion videos, i decided to try to get a little inspired by shoes from 1958.  check out the flower shoes – very carrie bradshaw!

zip it.

zippers!  they’re not just for holding up your dresses or pants – they are a fun detail that’s being added to clothes and accessories this season.  i love the unexpected texture the zippers add to these pieces.

eco-friendly wardrobe essentials you didn't think you could find

on tuesday i posted some really cute ethical and sustainable clothing lines.  and yesterday i posted an interview with Gaia Conceptions, a line of comfortable eco-friendly clothing in some really great colors.  but what about wardrobe essentials besides everyday clothes?  are there eco-friendly shoes, bags, and bathing suits?  luckily, thanks to some really smart and passionate designers, the answer is yes!

Terra Plana makes shoes out of materials like recycled memory foam and natural latex.  i was really pleasantly surprised by the large selection of super cute shoes!  Deux FM makes “eco chic” clothes, like stylish bikinis made of recycled linen, organic cotton, and soy.  and Pansy Maiden makes colorful bags out of organic cotton twill.  so if you’re looking to finish off your wardrobe with eco-friendly items, these collections have you covered!

UPDATE: Terra Plana is offering the clothing menu readers a 25% discount on their Terra Plana classics shoes!  just enter CLOTHINGMENU25 at checkout – expires august 15.

appetizer (fusion): studded ballet slippers by Capezio

these ballet slippers are super cute!  i’m debating buying a pair for myself, but i’m worried i’d be channeling amy winehouse too much, although these shoes are way better than hers.  they are made by Capezio, a dancewear brand (i have no rythym, so dancers – correct me if i’m wrong). they’re available for purchase at bonadrag.com, a site i recommend you visit if you haven’t already.
