Men’s fashion spring 2013: prints

spring fashion men 2013

Gucci / Lacoste

I’m wrapping up this week of men’s spring fashion with the boldest trend: prints. Seen on the spring runways were unusual prints for men, like polka dots and floral. What do you think? Would you (or your guy) wear any of these to work?

I’m actually really liking this trend for guys who work in a creative work environment like I do. Camo is a trend that you need to wear in small doses, whether it’s to the office or on weekends, but here are some work appropriate ways to pull off this trend (if you’re in a casual office only!):

How to wear plaid shirts to work (men’s style)

One easy way for a man to add variety to your work wardrobe is to incorporate patterns, like plaid. There are a lot of options for plaid, however you should be aware of whether the plaid print is casual or dressy to make sure it’s appropriate for your work environment.

Business casual plaid shirts usually have large check marks with 2 or more colors. They can be worn with jeans or neutral casual pants that are gray, tan or black. To figure out which color pant, just look for which of those colors is in the plaid.

Dressy plaid shirts usually have a subtle print and one main color where the lines forming the plaid print are in a complementary color. These should be worn with gray, navy or black dress pants based off the main color of the shirt.

Every man should own this: blue non-iron Brooks Brothers shirt

Yup..that’s right.  I’m writing about men’s fashion! I’ve been told multiple times by my male co-workers that I should write about men’s fashion, but I’ve been putting it off because it’s a little intimidating.  As much as women give guys a hard time about what they wear, men’s fashion does have its challenges.  Guys don’t have the choices between pants, jeans, skirts and dresses like we do, so it can be tough adding variety to guy’s wardrobes. It can also be a challenge getting a suit, shirt, shoes, socks and ties to match. I’ve had to occasionally help my boyfriend with this and even I’ve been stumped a few times as to what tie goes with his shirt.  Anyway, I’m excited to start this new men’s style series on my blog.  Hope you enjoy and please pass this along to your guy friends, boyfriends or husbands!

For my first men’s style post, I’m featuring something every man who works in an office should own: the classic blue dress shirt. My boyfriend owns this non-iron Brooks Brothers shirt and I will say the non-iron part is pretty impressive (no dry cleaning bill!). It needs some ironing when it comes out of the dryer, but not nearly as much as other shirts.  Plus it’s a great quality and available in a variety of sizes for all body types.
